Donald Trump has secured the American Presidency. In so doing he has demonstrated a successful schema for capturing an existing ‘democracy’, and others will certainly refine and implement it.

The Antithesis of Democracy

Over the past perhaps 10 years, a variety of dire imperatives have become central to the future of modern political activity. Although we might imagine that, as the development of ‘civilization’ proceeds, the virtues of human intelligence, integrity, forbearance and wisdom might prevail, what we’re actually experiencing is their decline. The reasons are complex, but not inscrutable.

The specter of scarcity hovers over the common people, due primarily to the self-exceeding success of capitalism, commercialism and commodity-culture. As often precedes a catastrophic reversal of order, the gap between the wealthy and the poor has become hyperbolized to a previously unimaginable extent. One is reminded of certain circumstances in France prior to the beheading of Marie Antionette at the guillotine. Unfortunately, this time around, the environment and the poor are certainly going to be ‘put to the blade’. Possibly forever.
